Dr Mirco Soderi

Researcher

Mirco is a postdoctoral researcher in the Data Science Institute at University of Galway, Ireland. He got his master’s degree in computer engineering in Florence, Italy, from where he is from. After graduation, he worked in software development and IT consultancy firms as a software developer, data engineer, data quality specialist, and data analyst. Then, he moved back to University of Florence, where he worked as an assistant researcher, and where he enrolled for a PhD course in Information Engineering, curriculum Computer Engineering. During that time, he contributed in many aspects to a smart city and smart industry platform where it was made extensive usage of semantic data, including data modeling, automatic Web documentation of ontologies, data engineering, APIs development and documentation, and real-time data processing and visualization. Soon after obtaining his PhD, he moved to University of Galway, where he currently is. There, he led research on a software framework for ubiquitous computing as a service, which involved containerization, low-code software development, parallel and distributed computing, artificial intelligence. Also, he led research on a few projects for startups in the market of environmental sustainability, fitness, robotics, digital consultancy, where he created configurable rule-based recommendation systems backed by semantic or survey data.

He is serving as researchers representative in the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) committee of the College of Science and Engineering. Over the years, he was founder and director of a few bodies, including a spin-off of University of Florence that provides support and customization on the smart city and industry platform, and sport clubs. He is a nature and mountain lover, but he also enjoys good romance novels. In the past, he has been a not-so-good football goalkeeper, and an even worse football referee. He served as a member of consultancy commissions in the local government of his hometown.
